The Truth, Pride, and Division among Believers

November 20, 2025

You can stand boldly on the truth, but how are you handling the truth? How are you delivering the truth? The haughty, the scoffers: the bible is clear that God is not pleased with people such as these. We must be humble, most especially when we are convinced we have the truth on some particular matter. To offend a child of God over the truth, if we are wrong, how disastrous would that be for us? But even if we are right, to present our case in a way that causes offense to someone for whom Christ has died; this is truly a tragedy. For now the truth has been used as a weapon by our mutual enemy, to strike a blow at the Church, and to sow division where Christ sought unity. And surely only evil can use good in such a way, the sin of pride is truly a dangerous monster to wrestle with. We would do better to set it down and yield, rather than allow Satan a grip on our hearts because of the certainty of our correctness.

"So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love."

Ephesians 4:14-16 (ESV)
